Privacy Policy

Account. On first launch the iOS app creates an anonymous Firebase account (a random identifier). If you link Apple or email in Settings, that identifier is associated with your Apple ID or email address so your history follows you across devices.

On the web, scoring a target without an account creates an anonymous identifier stored in your browser. It is not connected to you unless you choose to link Apple or email.

Shot-timer sessions. Audio recorded during a timing session, detected shot times, detector confidence values, your review corrections, and device/app metadata (device model, iOS version, app version) needed to interpret the recording.

Target scoring evidence. Every valid target photo you submit, including retakes, failed registration attempts, zero-detection photos, and manual recoveries. We retain a metadata-stripped normalized image, scoring diagnostics, detected and corrected hole positions, analysis outcomes, and resulting scores. Unsupported or corrupt files create only a bounded metadata rejection record; their bytes are not retained.

Optional Apple Watch and Apple Health workout. If you enable it, ordinary wrist-motion recoil events associated with a timer session may be saved with that session. The explicit Range Training Workout may also save a workout record to Apple Health after you choose Save; Watch can provide available live/average heart rate and active energy, while the no-Watch iPhone path records duration and app-calculated strings and shots only. HealthKit-derived heart-rate, energy, and workout records stay in Apple Health: we do not upload them to Firebase, use them for analytics, or use them for detector model training. If HealthKit is denied or unavailable, the app continues as an in-app-only session.

Feedback. Whatever you write in a feedback form, and an optional contact email if you leave one.

Diagnostics and performance. App interactions, launch and processing timings, device/app identifiers, crash reports, and related diagnostics used to find failures and measure the detector and sync pipeline.

Microphone recording begins only during a timer session you start. An optional Range Training Workout also starts and ends only through your explicit action. When connectivity is available, previously saved sessions or target photos may finish syncing to your private account without another upload prompt.

App content that WhirledPiece collects is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore and Cloud Storage) under your account identifier, on Google Cloud infrastructure in the United States. Detection itself runs on-device; recordings sync to your account so you can review sessions on the web dashboard. Apple Health workout records and HealthKit-derived metrics remain in Apple Health and are not copied into that cloud account.

To provide the product: session history, cross-device sync, the analytics dashboard, and target scoring. And to make detection better: session recordings together with your review corrections may be used to train and evaluate candidate detection models, and target evidence — including submitted photos, diagnostics, and corrections — may be used to train and evaluate candidate target-scoring models. Training happens from labeled data in aggregate. A candidate must pass held-out evaluation and a release decision before it is shipped to users; additional review does not guarantee that every future model improves. This research and development use is part of why the app is free.

We do not sell your data. We share it only with service providers needed to operate the product, currently Google Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, storage, analytics, security, and crash diagnostics. There is no advertising or cross-company tracking. Apple Health workout records and HealthKit-derived metrics are not part of that Firebase sync or analytics pipeline.

WhirledPiece is free because Soundside Design is using it as a field testbed for edge sensing, acoustic and visual machine learning, sensor fusion, and review-driven model development in competitive shooting. It is not free in exchange for advertising, and we do not sell or use your data for ads. Product data is not a government or military dataset; any future work for another customer would use separately sourced and consented data.

Account data is retained until you delete it or ask us to remove it; this includes queued browser evidence until it syncs or is cleared. An offline browser queue cannot survive you clearing that browser’s site data before it uploads. We do not currently apply an automatic expiration to saved sessions, target records, or evidence attempts. Some encrypted backups and security logs may persist for a limited period after deletion. Email info@whirledpiece.ai for a deletion, access, or data-practice question, and include the linked account email or saved-score URL when applicable.

You can delete your account and all associated data — sessions, recordings, target photos, scoring attempts and scores, feedback, and derived analytics — from the iOS app under Settings. Client-visible records are removed immediately or queued if the phone is offline; a server deletion trigger completes cleanup after the authentication account is removed. You can also ask us to do it by writing to info@whirledpiece.ai from the account’s linked email. Deletion is permanent.

If you scored targets on the web without an account, email info@whirledpiece.ai with the link to your saved score and we will delete it.

WhirledPiece is available on the App Store and free to use. We intend to keep the core timer and target-scoring experience free. We may later offer optional paid tiers for advanced features or storage. If our data practices change, this page changes first and the effective date below moves.
